Dominican Named Academic Dean at Catholic Theological Union
CHICAGO, IL -- June 18, 2008 -- Donald Senior, CP, President of Catholic
Theological Union recently announced that the Board of Trustees
has selected Barbara Reid, OP, (Grand Rapids) as Vice President
and Academic Dean.
CTU is the largest Roman Catholic graduate school
of theology and ministry in North America. Students from all over
the world, of every age and vocation, study together. They learn
about the Catholic faith as well as how to dialogue with other
Abrahamic faith traditions – Protestant, Jewish and Muslim.
Barbara is Professor of New Testament Studies at CTU and has been
a member of the Faculty since 1988. She received her doctorate
in biblical studies from the Catholic University of America and
has published widely, earning a reputation as a leading New Testament
scholar. She has served as the Chair of the Department of Biblical
Languages and Literature and is currently the Faculty Representative
to the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees.
Barbara will succeed Gary Reibe-Estrella, SVD, who has served with
distinction as Vice President and Academic Dean for thirteen years.
At its meeting, the Board of Trustees passed a resolution thanking
Gary for his years of generous service to CTU.
